One of the most popular day trips from Athens and not just for locals is to Nafplio the first capital of Greece. It’s only 2 hours from Athens and you can go by car or a KTEL bus.
You can walk in the old town and get the feeling that you are a time traveler, from the Syntagma square to the Vouleftikon, the first Parliament of Greece. Climb the 999 stairs of the Palamidi castle and see the amazing view to the sea.
After that a bite at the restaurants to taste the delicious local cuisine is definitally what comes next and don’t forget to taste the local home made pasta goges, bogana, gournopoula (oven baked pork) and Grilled chicken with sauce.
